I fell in love at the deep end; Splashing and floundering, I couldn’t swim; My head under water, drowning. And when I tried to reach the edge, I found the pool and lifeguard were gone; I was in the ocean, dark clouds overhead. I’m sinking, please send me a boat; I’m drowning, please help me to float. But when the storm passed, And I could tread water, I saw you beside me, you taught me to swim.

Second Love 02:26
Goodbye my second love, though you’re not second in my heart; It’s just that I was married before I met you, And my husband wants us to go away, so I fear that we must part; Still I promise that I never will forget you. If you love me like you say you do, Please don’t leave me for him, For you know with him your chances For true happiness are slim. I do love you like I say I do, And I don’t much love my man, But a wife’s place is at her husband’s side In God’s great and glorious plan. If a wife’s place is with her husband, Then why did God make you and me? For we were made to love each other; Come with me, love, and be free. Goodbye my husband dear, for you are second in my heart; It doesn’t matter that we were married before I met her, For my true love wants us to go away, so it’s now that we must part, And I promise that I never will regret her.

Forest 04:33
You cut me down, but I will never stay dormant; Like a tree, I will grow; Adding rings, they show the years of our life Spent together, but now we burn. But I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. If you cut me through the middle, You will see the years of plenty, But if you look a little closer, You will see the years of drought. But I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. This ring here is from the time I was burned, Scorched and blackened, it remains, And this ring here is from the Summer of plenty, You see it’s wider than the hurt. But I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. Yes I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. If you fell me, I won’t stay felled; I will demonstrate succession; New shoots grow in the barren field, And the forest will return. And I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. Yes I will grow like a forest, And I’ll return like a forest. I will grow.

Noah's Dove 05:08
This song is to all of the cis straight white men who think that the world is their own; I can see why you hold that opinion, for that is what history has shown, But just because you’ve always been the top dogs, that doesn’t mean you have the right To discriminate, patronise, taunt and abuse, and I promise I’m up for a fight. And when the world comes tumbling and crashing down around us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for you to send us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for Noah’s dove. This world has been shaped by a number of wonderful people with wonderous plans; The ones that you’ve heard of are most likely male, able-bodied and probably not trans, But just because you haven’t heard of the rest, that doesn’t mean we don’t exist, And I feel like it’s time for you to recognise that it’s got to the point that we’re pissed. And when the world comes tumbling and crashing down around us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for you to send us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for Noah’s dove. Now let me tell you a few things about sex and gender and LGBT: Some people are female, some people are male, and others are non-binary, And this is the gender you feel in your head, but it doesn’t always correlate With the length of your hair, or the shape of your hips, or the people who you want to date. And when the world comes tumbling and crashing down around us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for you to send us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for Noah’s dove. I can tell that you find it embarrassing to know there are those who can’t walk, Who are deaf, who are blind, or are missing a limb, but that’s no excuse to stop and gawk, And a disability can be there in your head, but not obvious at first sight, And autistic brains may work differently, but that doesn’t mean we are not bright. And people of colour, whether British or not, are just as important as you, And so are those immigrants that you detest and those who support the EU, So please put your privilege aside for one minute and accept that we all are the same, And if you don’t try, but continue to hate, then it’s only yourself who’s to blame. And when the world comes tumbling and crashing down around us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for you to send us, Sitting in the ruins we’ll be waiting for Noah’s dove. I know that this song has one fatal flaw, those who need the lecture are not here, And there’s no way to force them to listen, but let me make one thing quite clear: That though I may be preaching to the converted, we all have our own part to play, And all of us can help by spreading this message, be you white, black, disabled or gay. And maybe then the world will not come crashing down around us, And there won’t be a need for – And maybe then the world will not come crashing down around us, And there won’t be a need for Noah’s dove.

Alien 05:09
I grew up believing that people are a tapestry of places they have been, And I grew up thinking that I wasn’t from one place or another but from somewhere in between, So when I heard that we were out, it made me want to scream and cry, get on a box and shout, For I love this land of mine, but I feel like I’m not welcome here, I’m too far out of line. Now I’m an alien in my own country, I’m an alien in my own land; I’m an alien in my own country, And if you feel the same, come take my hand. My mother and my father brought me up as British, though I grew up overseas, But that didn’t matter, for with free movement we could travel home again with ease, And as I grew up I rejoiced, knowing that wherever I went I would have a voice, But then came June 2016 and it turned out what I took for granted was a wishful dream. Now I’m an alien in my own country, I’m an alien in my own land; I’m an alien in my own country, And if you feel the same, come take my hand. My parents didn’t get a vote, they’d been away too long so their opinion wasn’t heard, Nor that of countless others who should’ve had a voice but were denied a single word, But still it’s called democracy, despite the fact that so many were lied to and deceived; It will continue to decline, unless we stand and fight instead of towing the line. For we’re all aliens in our own country, We’re all aliens in our own land; We’re all aliens in our own country, But since we feel this way, let’s take a stand. I’m a European, a citizen of every nation on this continent, But it appears I’m living in a land where media and politicians are hell-bent On splitting and dividing the people who make up this country without listening, And now I feel I don’t belong, so if you feel the same way then stand up and sing along… That we’re all aliens in our own country, We’re all aliens in our own land; We’re all aliens in our own country, But since we feel this way, let’s take a stand. Aliens in our own country, We're all aliens in our own land; We’re all aliens in our own country, But since we feel this way, let’s take a stand, Since we feel this way, let’s take a stand.

about

This is Roary Skaista's first EP of all original songs, loosely based on the theme of feeling like an outsider in society, whether this be to do with queer identity, national identity, or neurodiversity, but sticking up for one's personal truth regardless.
